Ducks love Manoomin. They live in relationship with the wild rice throughout their life cycle. They make their nests close to wild rice beds. Their babies hatch and take their first swims through the rice, eating bugs off of wild rice stalks and lily pad plates. As they grow, their parents leave them and they find safety in the shelter and camouflage of the Manoomin. As adults they fly from rice bed to rice bed as they migrate, eating the ripe seeds and finding protecting from hunters.
We see these little babies everyday. Some clutches have parents directing them, others are on their own.
